About this event

LUCAS- Prince of Darkness?
At this clinic we plan on exposing Lucas!
Including what is good and what was bad.
Keith has been dealing with Lucas now for over 60 years, maybe he learned something? We’ll start with the stuff in the instrument panel. Switches and lights are the first thing we see when we park our butts in the car. Now the “newest” car is over 26 years old and some components are failing. Almost everything is available from aftermarket suppliers. Some of these pieces are good, some not so good. Experience with the differing suppliers is sometimes drastic, some supply good products, some supply various quality, some we just don’t purchase anything from.
After the instrument panel we’ll look under the bonnet. Starters, generators, alternators, controls, ignition and sensors. Today there are some excellent aftermarket pieces. Most of the stuff in the engine compartment that we get today is actually superior to the original. Ignition upgrades have proven to be quite an improvement.
The wiring of our cars is simplistic compared to anything built after about 1980!. Lucas wiring is excel- lent and is still going great on cars from the 1950’s. Much of the wiring problems come from people “improving” the original. Radio and alarm installations usually create BIG electrical problems. British wiring is way different from how the Americans did things and having an individual “experienced” with American wiring working on a British car usually leads to smok- ing wires! Original is best when we are working with Lucas wiring.
